iSTAR Natural Graphite® powders offer high thermal conductivity and oxidation resistance, effectively improving corrosion and thermal shock resistance by repelling infiltration and lowering internal thermal gradients.
1. Thermal Shock Resistance : iSTAR Natural Graphite® has excellent thermal conductivity. When added to refractories, it significantly reduces the internal thermal gradient between the hot and cold faces. This effectively decreases internal stresses and improves thermal shock and spalling resistance.
2. Corrosion Resistance : iSTAR Natural Graphite® prevents penetration of slag and molten metal through the crack network inside the refractory by being non-wetted by molten slag. This characteristic effectively improves the corrosion resistance of the refractory materials.
3. Oxidation Resistance: Research work indicates that 2 factors directly affect the oxidation resistance: particle size and purity. It has been determined that oxidation begins on the edges of the graphite flakes and where impurities or inclusions can be found. Larger and purer flakes are therefore more resistant. With larger flake size, higher thickness, and higher purity, iSTAR Natural Graphite® shows excellent resistance to oxidation, and this translates into longer refractory life.
