Why they exist

To give reliable colour, hiding, UV resistance and stain resistance in cost-sensitive systems that are mostly water-borne and often high-PVC.

Industry Problems

  • Difficult dispersion of fine blacks in water-based systems
  • Foam generation and poor flow / leveling
  • Rub-off and early chalking in exterior exposure

Larger particle size and lower surface area compared with automotive → easier dispersion, lower viscosity
Low structure → smooth, low-sheen to semi-gloss films
Neutral to slightly blue undertone to keep greys clean
